How often should I replace my filter cartridges?

Filter Cartridges_1

As with many questions in life, the answer to this one is subjective and not black-and-white. With the new breed of variable-speed pumps, most pool filters actually do not need to be replaced—or even cleaned—as often as we had previously been advised. Still, regular maintenance of all pool equipment, including the pool filters, offers you greater carefree enjoyment and extends the life of your investment.

A rule of thumb for cleaning pool filters is that when the pressure has increased more than 10 psi from its clean state, it’s time to do some upkeep. If you see any fraying or damage to a filter, that’s the time to replace it. Although experts used to tell us to replace filters every two years, it’s not uncommon for newer and better-maintained products to last twice that long.
